Instead of a generic symbol by your website’s URL, brand your page with a customized favicon!
A favicon (short for ‘favorite icon’) is the small image next to a URL or tabbed page in a web browser. While its addition is purely cosmetic, it adds a professional feel to websites and blogs, and it’s a great way to utilize your logo. See the favicons below:
There are a few different ways to add a favicon to your website, but we think this is the easiest.
So, here are the 3 steps to adding a favicon to your website.
- 1. Create your image. The size must be 16 by 16 pixels and you should create it using a 16 color palette. Need help creating your image? Check out http://www.favicon.cc/.
- 2. Once the file has been created, name the file favicon.ico.
- 3. Using an FTP client, upload the file to your website’s root directory (which is the top folder for your website.)
That’s it! Easy, right?
Troubleshooting. If you don’t see your favicon:
- 1. Clear your cache.
- 2. Go to “http://mysite.com/favicon.ico” to ensure the favicon has been uploaded successfully.
- If you still don’t see your favicon, repeat step 3 and try again. If you still don’t see it, contact Ad Astra and we’ll help you out!
