SEO for Bloggers

Posted on Jul 20, 2010 in Marketing Musings

Have a blog? Want more people to read it?

I’m pretty sure that no one I know personally reads my blog regularly. Why would they? They have to listen to me talk. (and I talk a lot. a LOT.)

But I do know that occasionally people check out my blog. Obviously my site is optimized, although being in the SEO industry makes it considerably more competitive than say, plumbing. Which is great news for some of my potential clients, one of whom offers plumbing services. Not great news for me, as I frankly can’t compete with some of the huge companies who offer advanced services and products I probably hear about until the next conference I attend. So I make sure that my blog entries are useful and hopefully amusing at times.

At any rate, if you have a blog, you can optimize it in the same way a website can be optimized. This will increase your readers, and if you have advertising, increase your profits. It grows your brand organically without having to resort to some of the shadier tactics I’ve seen bloggers use to get people to their site.

And, since blogs aren’t as dynamic as websites, it is pretty cheap to optimize once you’ve learned the basics.

I saw an interesting article about common mistakes bloggers make when trying to optimize. Read it here.
